Children’s book news for April 2026: Michael Rosen wins the Hans Christian Andersen Award, CLiPPA and UKLA shortlists arrive, and Puffin launches its new picture book list, Puffin Studio.
Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Tom Sears is a British writer and illustrator whose published work includes illustrated non-fiction for young readers and illustrated humour.
He is credited as the illustrator of Vladimir Putin: Life Coach by Rob Sears, published by Canongate Books on 13 September 2018.
With his brother Rob Sears, he co-wrote and illustrated The Biggest Footprint: Eight Billion Humans. One Clumsy Giant, published by Canongate Books on 30 September 2021.
Sears is also credited as writer and illustrator (with Rob Sears) on A Tree Is a Time Machine, published by Hachette Children’s Group on 25 September 2025.
The Biggest Footprint won the 2022 James Cropper Wainwright Prize for Children’s Writing on Nature and Conservation.
