Terry Pratchett was a British author best known for his work in children’s and young adult literature, as well as adult fantasy. He began his writing career as a journalist before publishing his first novel, The Carpet People, in 1971. Pratchett is most widely recognised for creating the Discworld series, a collection of comic fantasy novels set on a flat, disc-shaped world supported by four elephants standing on the back of a giant turtle. The Discworld series includes titles for both adult and younger readers, such as The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, which was published in 2001.
Pratchett’s writing is characterised by its satirical humour, inventive world-building, and exploration of social themes. His books have been published by several major publishers, including Doubleday and Corgi. In addition to his novels, Pratchett wrote short stories and collaborated with other authors, including Neil Gaiman on Good Omens.
Throughout his career, Pratchett received numerous awards and honours. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1998 for services to literature. In 2001, his novel The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents was awarded the Carnegie Medal by the Library Association.
