Tanitoluwa Adewumi is a Nigerian-American chess player and author. He began playing chess at a young age after moving to the United States from Nigeria. Adewumi gained recognition for his achievements in chess, particularly after winning the 2019 New York State K-3 Chess Championship.
He co-authored the memoir My Name Is Tani . . . and I Believe in Miracles, which was published in 2020. The book details his journey from Nigeria to the United States, his experiences as a refugee, and his passion for chess. The memoir was written with the assistance of his parents, Kayode and Oluwatoyin Adewumi, and author Craig Borlase.
Adewumi’s story has been noted for its focus on perseverance and the role of chess in his life. His memoir, My Name Is Tani . . . and I Believe in Miracles, was published by Thomas Nelson in 2020.
