Tamara Macfarlane biography

Tamara Macfarlane is a children’s author, bookseller and literacy specialist. She founded Tales on Moon Lane while working as a teacher, after studying English and Education with a specialism in children’s literature.

Before opening the bookshop, Macfarlane worked as a literacy coordinator. She later developed Moon Lane Education and Moon Lane Ink CIC alongside her bookselling and writing work.

Her children’s books include the Amazing Esme series, illustrated by Michael Fowkes, and the Dylan’s Amazing Dinosaurs books. She has also written illustrated nonfiction and activity-style books including Dragon World, Underwater World, The Book of Mysteries, Magic, and the Unexplained and Cryptids.

Macfarlane has judged children’s book awards including the Costa Children’s Book Award, the UKLA Book Awards and the Branford Boase Award. She has also appeared as an author and bookseller at literary festivals including Bath, Oxford and Hay.

In 2022, Macfarlane won the Cambridge Social Innovation Prize.
