Here’s our selection of top new titles coming out in summer 2019. These reading recommendations include picture books, early and middle-grade fiction; young adult novels and non-fiction.
Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Susie Brooks is a writer and editor of children’s books. Her work covers subjects including art, geography and prehistoric animals. She has a first class history of art degree and has worked as an editor and author of children’s non-fiction and picture books for more than 10 years. She is also an artist and has run workshops for young children.
Her books include Get Into Art Animals, Get Into Art: People: Discover Great Art – and Create Your Own!, The Stories and Secrets of Colors: Discover how colors brighten our world, Choose Your Own Journey and Ocean Emporium: A Compilation of Creatures. In the Get Into Art series, she introduces children to artworks, artists, techniques and practical art projects. Get Into Art Animals includes art projects based on animals and introduces artists including Degas, Warhol and Matisse.
Choose Your Own Journey is a 32-page interactive picture book illustrated by Tracy Cottingham and published on 28 July 2016. Insect Emporium, illustrated by Dawn Cooper, is a 64-page picture book about insects and was published on 8 September 2016. I Try, illustrated by Cally Johnson-Isaacs, is a 32-page picture book about trying new things, confidence and resilience, published on 1 December 2023.
