Stephen Polglase is a Cornish author whose work draws on local history, tin mining and folklore. He is listed as the author of The Book of Breage and Germoe: The Heart of the Godolphin Tin Dynasty, a local history title published by Halsgrove in 2003.
The Book of Breage and Germoe examines the history of tin mining in the parishes of Breage and Germoe, including Bronze Age tin working, the influence of the Godolphin family and the decline of local mining in the early twentieth century.
Polglase also wrote The Last Giants of Kernow, illustrated by Amy Bee Webb and published by Godolphin Arts and Heritage, part of Godolphin Cross Community Association. The book uses Cornish folklore to tell the story of Wotholga and Tregona, two giants linked with Tregonning and Godolphin Hills.
The story grew from a campfire tale first told for pupils at Godolphin Cross Primary School after Covid restrictions had disrupted their Year 6 residential camp. Community interest later led to the creation of giant figures inspired by the story for local processions and school arts projects.
The Last Giants of Kernow: The Age of Giants was listed for sale by The Cornish Store in 2025 as a collection of 15 short tales by Stephen Polglase.
