Stella Fry is a writer and primary school teacher. Her first children’s book, Grandpa’s Garden, was published by Barefoot Books in 2012 and illustrated by Sheila Moxley.
Grandpa’s Garden follows Billy as he helps his grandfather tend a vegetable patch through the changing seasons, from preparing the soil and planting seeds to caring for the crops and harvesting them. The picture book also includes practical material about gardening through the year.
Fry’s background in teaching and her interest in gardening are reflected in the book. She established an eco gardening club at her school, and Grandpa’s Garden was influenced by her family’s experience of keeping an allotment and by advice received from more experienced allotment holders.
Grandpa’s Garden was published by Barefoot Books on 1 March 2012.
