Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Sophie Kamlish is an illustrator and animator who has also competed as a Paralympic sprinter. She studied BA (Hons) Illustration & Animation at Kingston University and graduated in 2019.
Kamlish competed at the Paralympic Games in London (2012), Rio (2016), and Tokyo (2021). She has animated content for Channel 4’s Paralympic social media coverage and created BBC artwork inspired by the film Then Barbara Met Alan.
Kamlish illustrated Owning It: Our Disabled Childhoods in Our Own Words, edited by Jen Campbell, James Catchpole, and Lucy Catchpole (Faber & Faber, August 19, 2025; ISBN 9780571380022). The book was listed as a 2026 Read for Empathy Collection choice and was shortlisted for the 2026 SLA Information Book Award.
