Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Sophie Berger is a children’s author. Her debut picture book, Bartholomew and the Morning Monsters, illustrated by Ruan van Vliet, was published by Cicada Books in October 2020. The title was longlisted for the 2021 Klaus Flugge Prize, which recognises promising new picture-book illustrators.
Berger’s subsequent nonfiction picture book, The Unofficial Guide to the Ancient Egyptian Afterlife, illustrated by Laura Winstone, was published by Cicada Books on 11 October 2022. Presented as an introduction to Ancient Egyptian beliefs and funerary practices, it is aimed at primary readers.
Publisher materials note that Berger studied English and that her writing has appeared on Mamamia and other blogs. Her books are used in schools and libraries for storytime and topic work.
