Shannon Stocker is an American author known for her work in children’s literature. She has written both picture books and non-fiction titles for young readers. Stocker’s background includes experience as a physician, which informs some of her writing, particularly in the area of biographies and stories about resilience and overcoming challenges.
One of her notable works is Listen: How Evelyn Glennie, a Deaf Girl, Changed Percussion, a picture book biography about the Scottish percussionist Evelyn Glennie. This book, illustrated by Devon Holzwarth, was published by Dial Books for Young Readers in 2022. Listen has been recognised for its portrayal of Glennie’s journey and achievements in music despite her deafness.
Stocker has also authored Can U Save the Day?, a picture book published by Sleeping Bear Press in 2019. This story uses wordplay and the alphabet to engage young readers in a playful narrative about vowels and consonants.
In addition to her books, Stocker has contributed to anthologies and written articles for various publications. Her work often centres on themes of perseverance, hope, and the celebration of individual differences.
