Sarah Lippett is a British author and illustrator known for her work in graphic novels and illustrated books for children and young adults. She studied at the Royal College of Art, where she completed an MA in Communication Art and Design. Lippett’s work often explores themes of family, memory, and personal experience, drawing on her own life for inspiration.
Her debut graphic novel, Stan and Nan, was published by Jonathan Cape in 2016. The book is a memoir that tells the story of her grandparents, using a combination of illustration and narrative to depict their lives and relationship. Lippett’s distinctive visual style and storytelling approach have been noted for their clarity and emotional resonance.
In 2019, Lippett published A Puff of Smoke with Jonathan Cape. This graphic memoir recounts her experience of being diagnosed with a rare disease as a child, chronicling her journey through illness and recovery. The book provides insight into the impact of chronic illness on young people and their families, and it has been recognised for its honest and accessible portrayal of complex medical and emotional issues.
In addition to her books, Lippett has contributed illustrations and comics to various publications and exhibitions. She has also worked under the pseudonym ‘Sergio’ for some of her illustration projects.
