Sarah Henning biography

Sarah Henning is an American author of young adult and middle grade fiction whose books include fantasy, contemporary romance, sports stories, and mystery. Before publishing novels, she worked as a journalist for organizations including the Palm Beach Post, the Kansas City Star, and the Associated Press.

Henning made her novel debut with Sea Witch, published by Katherine Tegen Books in 2018. The young adult fantasy reimagines the origins of the sea witch from Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid.” It was selected for the American Booksellers Association’s Indies Introduce program and Indie Next List and became a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection. Henning continued the story in Sea Witch Rising.

Her Kingdoms of Sand and Sky fantasy trilogy comprises The Princess Will Save You, The Queen Will Betray You, and The King Will Kill You. Her contemporary young adult books include the sports romance Throw Like a Girl and its companion novel, It’s All in How You Fall. She also contributed to the girls-in-sports anthology Out of Our League.

Henning’s middle grade fiction includes Monster Camp, a fantasy about a human girl who unexpectedly finds herself at a summer camp populated by real monsters. The novel was a finalist for a Bram Stoker Award. She later published the upper middle grade romantic comedy Running Back to You.

Her young adult fantasy mystery The Lies We Conjure was named a 2025 Kansas Notable Book. Henning’s subsequent novel Such a Witch, a young adult fantasy combining romance and murder mystery elements, was published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers on July 28, 2026.
