Sara Pascoe biography

Sara Pascoe is an author and former psychologist whose fiction includes books for children and young adults. Before turning to fiction, she worked in psychology and neuroscience, with professional experience ranging from research involving chimpanzees and laboratory studies of the brain to work in the US Congress and clinical psychology.

Her young adult historical fantasy Ratchet the Reluctant Witch was first published by Brown Dog Books in 2015. The novel was subsequently revised and republished by Trindles & Green in 2017 as Being a Witch, and Other Things I Didn’t Ask For, with a new title and changes to the central character’s name. It follows fourteen-year-old foster child Raya, who discovers that she is a witch after running away and accidentally travelling back to the Essex witch trials of 1645. Her attempts to return to the present also take her to seventeenth-century Istanbul.

Pascoe is also the author of the middle-grade novel Oswald, the Almost Famous Opossum, illustrated by Varya Kolesnikova and published by Trindles & Green in 2016. The story centres on fame-seeking opossum Oswald and ten-year-old Joey, who can understand animals. Pascoe has also written about her former profession in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: The Essential Guide. Being a Witch, and Other Things I Didn’t Ask For was released in its revised edition in February 2017.
