Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Sara Barnard is a British author known for her young adult fiction. Her debut novel, Beautiful Broken Things, was published by Macmillan Children’s Books in 2016. The book was shortlisted for the YA Book Prize in 2017. Barnard’s subsequent novels include A Quiet Kind of Thunder (2017), Goodbye, Perfect (2018), Fierce Fragile Hearts (2019), Destination Anywhere (2021), and Where the Light Goes (2023).
Goodbye, Perfect won the 2019 YA Book Prize. Fierce Fragile Hearts was shortlisted for the 2019 Books Are My Bag Readers Awards. Barnard’s work has been published by Macmillan Children’s Books. She has also contributed to anthologies, including Floored (2018), a collaborative novel written with six other UK young adult authors.
In 2020, Barnard’s novel Destination Anywhere was published by Macmillan Children’s Books. Her books have been translated into multiple languages. In 2017, A Quiet Kind of Thunder was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. Barnard’s novel Where the Light Goes was published in 2023.
