S.K. Ali writes the characters and stories she did not see growing up. Her debut novel, Saints and Misfits, was published on 13 June 2017. That book was a finalist for the American Library Association’s 2018 William C. Morris Award and won the APALA Honor Award and the Middle East Book Honor Award. She later wrote Love from A to Z, and she co-edited Once Upon an Eid with Aisha Saeed; Once Upon an Eid was published on 5 May 2020.
Ali returned to Janna Yusuf’s story in Misfit in Love, published on 25 May 2021. She also added The Eid Gift to the Love from A to Z storyline on 12 May 2021. In 2022 she published Love from Mecca to Medina, a sequel to Love from A to Z, on 18 October 2022. Her novel Fledgling opened The Keeper’s Records of Revolution duology, and that book became a Canadian Children’s Book Centre finalist.
