Ryan La Sala biography

Ryan La Sala is an American author of young adult fantasy, romance, and horror. His debut novel, Reverie, was published by Sourcebooks Fire in 2019. The fantasy follows Kane Montgomery, a teenager who has lost his memory and discovers that dangerous imagined worlds called reveries are breaking into reality. Reverie was selected for the Kids’ Indie Next List and the Barnes & Noble YA Book Club.

La Sala followed it with Be Dazzled in 2021, a contemporary YA romance centered on Raffy, a teenage costume designer competing against his ex-boyfriend at a major cosplay competition. The novel also appeared on the Kids’ Indie Next List.

His first YA horror novel, The Honeys, was published by Scholastic Press in 2022. It follows Mars, who attends the secluded summer camp previously attended by his twin sister and investigates the circumstances surrounding her death. The Scholastic Audio production, narrated by Pete Cross and produced by Melissa Ellard, won the American Library Association’s 2023 Odyssey Award for Young Adults.

Scholastic published Beholder in 2023. The supernatural horror novel follows Athan, who survives a deadly party and becomes caught up in a mystery involving mirrors, art, and unexplained violence. It was selected for the ALA Rainbow Book List and was a finalist for the 2024 Ignyte Award for Outstanding Young Adult Novel.

La Sala’s The Dead of Summer, published by Scholastic in September 2025, begins a planned horror duology set on the island of Anchor’s Mercy, where Ollie Veltman investigates a supernatural plague emerging from the sea. Its audiobook was named a 2026 Odyssey Honor Audiobook by the American Library Association.
