Roy Goose is an Inuit storyteller whose knowledge of traditional legends was passed down through his great-grandmother, Naimee Mammayuk, who travelled from Alaska to Canada around 1910 with Arctic explorer Vilhjalmur Stefansson. He shared these stories with his own children to teach life lessons and morals.
Goose is co-author of the picture book Sukaq and the Raven, written with Kerry McCluskey and illustrated by Soyeon Kim. First published by Inhabit Media in October 2017, the book is aimed at readers aged 5–7 and has appeared in both English and Inuktitut editions.
Sukaq and the Raven received industry recognition – it was a Foreword INDIES Book of the Year finalist for 2017 and was selected for the International Youth Library’s White Ravens catalogue in 2018.
