Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Priya Desai is a children’s speech and language therapist who writes text in consultation for the Toddler Talk board-book series. The series is designed to help toddlers move from first words to first phrases by introducing simple word combinations through familiar first experiences.
Toddler Talk: Let’s Go! was published by Nosy Crow on 5 June 2025, with illustrations by Carolina Búzio. The book follows toddlers on a park trip and uses everyday phrases linked to playground play, animals, snacks and going home.
Toddler Talk: All Gone! was published on 5 June 2025 as part of the same board-book series. It focuses on a shared mealtime, using simple phrases for preparing food, eating, making a mess and cleaning up.
Toddler Talk: Muddy Farm! was published on 12 February 2026. It follows four toddlers and their families on a farm visit, with phrases connected to arriving, seeing animals, eating a snack and taking a tractor ride.
Toddler Talk: My Potty! was published on 4 June 2026 for children aged 2–5. It supports a potty-training experience through phrases about buying a potty, sitting down, standing up, wiping, pulling up pants and washing hands.
