Philippa Gregory is a British author known for her historical novels, particularly those set in the Tudor period. She studied at the University of Sussex, where she earned a degree in history, and later completed a PhD at the University of Edinburgh. Gregory’s first novel, Wideacre, was published in 1987.
She gained international recognition with The Other Boleyn Girl, published in 2001. The novel won the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s Romantic Novel of the Year Award in 2002. Gregory’s works often focus on the lives of women in historical settings, and she has written several series, including The Plantagenet and Tudor novels, which feature titles such as The Queen’s Fool (2003), The Constant Princess (2005), and The White Queen (2009).
Her books have been translated into multiple languages and adapted for film and television. The Other Boleyn Girl was adapted into a feature film in 2008. Gregory has also written non-fiction, including The Women of the Cousins’ War (2011), co-authored with David Baldwin and Michael Jones.
In 2020, Gregory published Tidelands, the first book in the Fairmile series, followed by Dark Tides (2020) and Dawnlands (2022). She has received honorary degrees from several universities in recognition of her contribution to literature.
Gregory’s novel The Other Boleyn Girl won the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s Romantic Novel of the Year Award in 2002.
