Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Phil Stamper is an American author known for his contributions to young adult literature. He grew up in a small town near Dayton, Ohio. Stamper pursued higher education at the University of Dayton, where he earned a degree in music. He later obtained a master’s degree in publishing with a focus on children’s literature from New York University.
Stamper’s debut novel, The Gravity of Us, was published in February 2020 by Bloomsbury YA. The book explores themes of love, family, and ambition against the backdrop of a NASA mission to Mars. It received positive reviews for its portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters and its engaging narrative.
Following his debut, Stamper released his second novel, As Far As You’ll Take Me, in February 2021. This book delves into the life of a young musician navigating identity and belonging while living abroad. It was also published by Bloomsbury YA.
In 2022, Stamper published Golden Boys, the first book in a series that follows four queer friends during their summer adventures. The sequel, Afterglow, was released in 2023, continuing the story of the characters introduced in Golden Boys.
Phil Stamper’s work has been recognized for its authentic representation of LGBTQ+ experiences and its ability to resonate with young adult readers. His novels have been featured in various literary publications and have contributed to discussions on diversity in young adult fiction.
