Owen Gildersleeve is a British illustrator and set designer known for his distinctive paper craft artwork. He specialises in hand-crafted illustration, using layers of cut paper and mixed media to create intricate images for editorial, advertising, and publishing clients. Gildersleeve’s work has appeared in a range of international publications and campaigns, and he has collaborated with brands, magazines, and cultural institutions.
Gildersleeve studied Graphic Design at the University of Brighton. After graduating, he established his career in London, developing a unique style that combines traditional paper cutting techniques with contemporary design. His illustrations often involve detailed, multi-layered compositions, and he is recognised for his ability to bring depth and texture to two-dimensional images.
In addition to his commercial work, Gildersleeve has curated and participated in exhibitions showcasing paper art and illustration. He is the author of Paper Cut: An Exploration into the Contemporary World of Papercraft Art and Illustration, published by Rockport in 2014. This book features profiles of international paper artists and provides insight into the creative processes behind their work.
Gildersleeve’s projects have included editorial illustrations, book covers, advertising visuals, and set designs for photography and film. He has also led workshops and talks on paper craft and illustration, sharing his expertise with students and creative professionals.
In 2014, Gildersleeve published Paper Cut: An Exploration into the Contemporary World of Papercraft Art and Illustration with Rockport.
