Owen Gildersleeve biography

Owen Gildersleeve is an artist and illustrator who specialises in handcrafted illustration and set design. His illustration work combines layered paper-cutting with graphic shapes. Paper Cut: An Exploration Into the Contemporary World of Papercraft Art and Illustration is his book about contemporary papercraft art and illustration, with contributions from 30 papercraft illustrators and 250 full-colour photographs.

Gildersleeve illustrated My Amazing Body Machine: A Colorful Visual Guide to How Your Body Works by Robert Winston, published by DK on 9 May 2017 for readers aged 7 to 10. The book uses paper-craft illustrations to explain the human body, including the brain, skeleton, heart, lungs, cells and body systems. This was his first book for children.

Gildersleeve wrote and illustrated Let It Glow: A Winter’s Walk, a 24-page novelty picture book for ages 5 to 7. The book was released on 5 December 2017 by Wide Eyed Editions and uses cut-paper collage artwork in a Christmas Eve story. He also created the cover illustration for Holly Webb’s Earth Friends: Fair Fashion, a 160-page book for ages 7 to 9 published on 1 April 2021.
