Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Olivia Lomenech Gill is a British artist and illustrator known for her work in children’s literature. She studied at the University of Cambridge and later completed a postgraduate diploma in printmaking at the University of Dundee. Gill’s artistic practice spans drawing, printmaking, and painting, and she has exhibited her work in various galleries.
Her first major illustration commission was for Michael Morpurgo’s Where My Wellies Take Me, published by Templar in 2012. The book features a combination of Gill’s illustrations and Morpurgo’s text, and it was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2014.
In 2017, Gill illustrated Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling, published by Bloomsbury. Her illustrations for this edition depict magical creatures from the wizarding world, bringing a distinctive visual style to the text.
Olivia Lomenech Gill’s work on Where My Wellies Take Me was recognised with a shortlist placement for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2014.
