Neil Ingram is a science educator and author of biology textbooks for secondary and sixth-form students. He holds a PhD in genetics from the University of Birmingham and a PGCE from the University of Cambridge. He taught biology and psychology in secondary schools, including working as a Head of Science, before becoming a senior lecturer in science education at the University of Bristol. There, he taught trainee biology teachers and examined how developments in genomics affect school science education.
Ingram has written educational materials for Nuffield science curriculum projects and worked as an A-level examiner. He also served on a Royal Society of Biology education committee that developed a biology curriculum framework for students aged 5 to 19. His publications include Twenty First Century Science: Biology for GCSE Combined Science Student Book, co-written with Alistair Moore, Gary Skinner and Mark Winterbottom and published by Oxford University Press in June 2016.
Alongside his educational writing, Ingram developed Stories from Nowhere Wood, an online natural history resource exploring woodland ecology, biodiversity and seasonal changes through photographs, observations and scientific explanations.
Ingram also co-authored Evolution with Sylvia Hixson Andrews and Jane Still. Published by Oxford University Press on 25 November 2021 as part of its Oxford Biology Primers series, the book introduces students aged 16 to 19 to evolutionary theory, fossil evidence, human evolution and the relationship between evolutionary biology and modern genetics.
