Murray Chandler is a chess Grandmaster and author, known for his contributions to chess literature and his achievements as a player. Born in New Zealand, Chandler became a prominent figure in international chess, representing both New Zealand and England in various competitions. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1983.
Chandler has competed in numerous international tournaments and has represented England in Chess Olympiads. He has also played in the British Chess Championship and other major events. In addition to his playing career, Chandler is recognised for his work as a chess writer and publisher. He has authored and co-authored several instructional chess books aimed at players of different skill levels.
Among his published works are How to Beat Your Dad at Chess and Chess Tactics for Kids, both of which are designed to help young and developing players improve their tactical skills. Chandler has also been involved in chess publishing, notably with Gambit Publications, a company specialising in chess books.
In 2007, Chandler won the New Zealand Chess Championship, marking a significant milestone in his career.
