MJ Burns is a writer and artist whose published short fiction has appeared in Gutter, Loft, little living room, Shoreline of Infinity and Tangled Web. Burns has also contributed articles to SF Caledonia and was formerly Assistant Editor of Shoreline of Infinity.
Burns studied English Literature at the University of St Andrews and holds master’s degrees in Creative Writing from the University of Aberdeen and Comics and Graphic Novels from the University of Dundee. Burns has worked on a graphic novel adaptation of James Hogg’s The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner.
Burns was shortlisted for the 2023 Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival Writing Award and the 2024 Edinburgh Award for Flash Fiction. In 2026, Burns was shortlisted for the Kelpies Prize for Writing, a Scottish children’s books award for writers seeking to begin a career in children’s publishing.
