Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Matty Long is a British author and illustrator known for his work in children’s picture books. He studied at the Cambridge School of Art, where he completed an MA in Children’s Book Illustration. Long’s debut picture book, Super Happy Magic Forest, was published by Oxford University Press in 2015. The book features a group of animal and mythical friends on a quest, and is noted for its detailed illustrations and humour.
Following the success of his first book, Long created several sequels, including Super Happy Magic Forest: Slug of Doom and Super Happy Magic Forest and the Humongous Fungus, both published by Oxford University Press. His work is characterised by vibrant artwork and playful storytelling, appealing to young readers and encouraging engagement with visual details.
In addition to the Super Happy Magic Forest series, Long has illustrated other children’s books and contributed to anthologies. His books are published in the UK by Oxford University Press. Super Happy Magic Forest was published in 2015.
