Matthew G. Baron is a British palaeontologist and author whose work bridges academic research and children’s nonfiction. He has researched dinosaur origins and early evolution at the University of Cambridge and London’s Natural History Museum, contributing papers on dinosaur and pterosaur relationships.
For young readers he edited the reference title Dictionary of Dinosaurs: An Illustrated A to Z of Every Dinosaur Ever Discovered, created in partnership with the Natural History Museum and illustrated by Dieter Braun. Arranged alphabetically, it profiles hundreds of species with concise facts suited to primary and lower-secondary classrooms.
Baron’s research gained wide attention in 2017 when a study he co-authored revived the term Ornithoscelida to group theropods with ornithischians – a high-profile proposal in dinosaur classification.
Dictionary of Dinosaurs was first published by Wide Eyed Editions in October 2018, with updated editions appearing in 2024.
