Matilda Robertson is a designer and illustrator whose work includes children’s book design, character illustration and sequential storytelling. Her 2024 Illustration showcase at UWE Bristol included visual story projects for books and comics, including Sisters of the Sacred Salamander, Wiggle Away, Come and Shrew the Conga and The Adventures of Rig Bot.
Robertson’s illustration work uses bright colour, texture and comic-style panels. Her showcased projects included a graphic novel opening about a scientist working to save endangered axolotls, a children’s book sequence set around Noche de Muertos, and a comic-book spread about a lonely boy in Bristol and a character called Rig Bot.
In 2026, Robertson was shortlisted for the inaugural Children’s Books North Network Prize, a prize for aspiring picture-book illustrators from the North of England. The prize was run in partnership with New Writing North as part of the Northern Writers’ Awards.
The 2026 Children’s Books North Network Prize shortlist placed Robertson alongside Anna Billington, Kate Muldowney, Lauren Hubbert, Lauren Sharples and Satomi Yamamiya.
