Linda Newbery is a British author known for her work in children’s and young adult fiction. She began her writing career with the publication of her first novel, Run with the Hare, in 1988. Newbery has written across a range of genres, including historical fiction, contemporary stories, and verse novels.
Her novel Set in Stone won the Costa Children’s Book Award in 2006. Other notable works include The Shell House, which was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize, and Sisterland, which was also shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. Newbery’s bibliography features titles such as Catcall, Lob, Flightsend, and At the Firefly Gate.
She has contributed to anthologies and written picture books, including Posy, illustrated by Catherine Rayner. Newbery has also served as a judge for literary awards, including the Costa Book Awards. In 2012, she was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
Her novel Set in Stone was published by David Fickling Books in 2006.
