Levi Pinfold is a British author and illustrator known for his work in children’s literature. He studied illustration at Falmouth University, where he honed his skills in creating detailed and atmospheric artwork. Pinfold’s debut picture book, The Django, was published in 2010 by Templar Publishing. This book, inspired by the life of jazz musician Django Reinhardt, showcases Pinfold’s distinctive illustrative style.
In 2012, Pinfold released Black Dog, which received critical acclaim and won the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal in 2013. The book tells the story of a family confronting a mysterious black dog that grows larger with fear. His ability to blend narrative and illustration has been widely recognised in the literary community.
Pinfold’s third book, Greenling, was published in 2015. This work further established his reputation for creating visually rich and engaging stories. Greenling was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2016, highlighting Pinfold’s continued excellence in children’s literature.
In addition to his own books, Pinfold has contributed illustrations to other authors’ works. Notably, he illustrated the 20th anniversary edition of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, published by Bloomsbury in 2017. His illustrations for this edition were praised for their unique interpretation of the beloved story.
Levi Pinfold’s work is characterised by its intricate detail and ability to evoke emotion through imagery. His contributions to children’s literature have been recognised with multiple awards and nominations, solidifying his place as a significant figure in the field. In 2018, he illustrated The Song from Somewhere Else by A.F. Harrold, which won the Amnesty CILIP Honour for Illustration.
