Lara Hawthorne is a British author and illustrator known for her work in children’s picture books. She studied at Falmouth University, where she graduated with a degree in illustration. Hawthorne’s distinctive style often features detailed, nature-inspired artwork and a focus on environmental themes.
Her debut picture book, Herbarium, was published in 2016. She has since written and illustrated several books, including Alba the Hundred Year Old Fish (2018), which explores the impact of pollution on marine life, and The Night Flower (2018), which tells the story of the blooming of the Saguaro cactus in the Sonoran Desert. Hawthorne’s books have been published by Big Picture Press and Laurence King Publishing.
In addition to her own titles, Hawthorne has illustrated works by other authors, such as Silent Night by Lara Hawthorne (2018), a retelling of the classic carol, and Song of the River by Joy Cowley (2019). Her illustrations are recognised for their intricate patterns and vibrant use of colour, often drawing inspiration from the natural world.
Hawthorne’s work has been featured in exhibitions and has received attention for its educational and ecological focus. Alba the Hundred Year Old Fish was published by Big Picture Press in 2018.
