Lan Cook biography

Lan Cook is the author of 24 Hours in the Stone Age, a 64-page hardback published on 8 July 2021 with illustrations by Laurent Kling. The book follows a Stone Age child through hunting, tool-making, fire-making and cave art. Cook also wrote 24 Hours in the Jungle, a 64-page hardback published on 3 March 2022 with illustrations by Stacey Thomas. That book follows a brother and sister in Borneo as they help scientists in the jungle and encounter orangutans, a rafflesia and a cloud leopard.

Cook also wrote Illustrated Stories of Mermaids, a 160-page hardback published on 1 January 2021 and illustrated by Margarita Kukhtina. The book brings together nine mermaid stories, including selkie stories from Scotland, a tale from the Philippines and Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid. Cook has also contributed to collaborative collections, including The Amazing Discoveries of 100 Brilliant Scientists, published on 1 January 2020 with Abigail Wheatley and Rob Lloyd Jones, and Tales of Brave and Brilliant Animals, published on 19 October 2023 with Susanna Davidson and Mairi Mackinnon.
