L.M. Montgomery biography

L.M. Montgomery was a Canadian author best known for her children’s novel Anne of Green Gables. Born as Lucy Maud Montgomery, she published her first book, Anne of Green Gables, in 1908. The novel tells the story of Anne Shirley, an imaginative orphan girl, and is set in Prince Edward Island, Canada. The book’s success led Montgomery to write several sequels, including Anne of Avonlea (1909), Anne of the Island (1915), and Anne’s House of Dreams (1917).

Montgomery wrote numerous other works for children and young adults, including the Emily of New Moon trilogy and the Pat of Silver Bush series. Her writing often features strong female protagonists, rural settings, and themes of imagination and resilience. In addition to her novels, Montgomery published hundreds of short stories and poems throughout her career.

Her books have been published by various publishers, including L.C. Page & Company and McClelland & Stewart. Montgomery’s work has been recognised for its contribution to Canadian literature, and Anne of Green Gables remains a widely read classic. In 1943, L.M. Montgomery was designated a Person of National Historic Significance by the Canadian government.
