Kim Slater is a British author known for her novels for children and young adults. She studied for an MA in Creative Writing at Nottingham Trent University. Slater’s debut novel, Smart, was published by Macmillan Children’s Books in 2014. The book was shortlisted for several awards, including the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and the Carnegie Medal.
Following Smart, Slater wrote further novels for young readers, including A Seven-Letter Word (2016), 928 Miles from Home (2017), and The Boy Who Lied (2018), all published by Macmillan Children’s Books. Her work often explores contemporary issues and is set in realistic environments.
Slater’s books have received recognition from various literary organisations. Smart was shortlisted for the 2015 Carnegie Medal.
