Kathleen Choi is a writer and editor whose work includes picture books created with her mother, author Sook Nyul Choi. She worked as a child actor on Sesame Street and later became managing editor of District Management Journal, a publication for K-12 public education leaders. She is also a founding member and board member of FitMoney, a non-profit providing financial literacy education.
Choi has collaborated with Sook Nyul Choi on picture books including Halmoni and the Picnic, Yunmi and Halmoni’s Trip and The Best Older Sister. The pair later co-authored Giving Thanks with Halmoni: Celebrating Chuseok, the Korean Harvest Festival, illustrated by Il Sung Na and published by Red Comet Press in August 2025. The book follows Su-Jin as she and her friends help her grandmother prepare for Chuseok, learning about the Korean harvest festival’s foods, customs and traditions.
Giving Thanks with Halmoni was named a Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year and was selected for the 2026 Notable Social Studies Trade Books for Young People list produced by the National Council for the Social Studies and the Children’s Book Council.
