Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Katherine Muncaster is a UK educator, headteacher and author whose work focuses on metacognition, growth mindset and pupil wellbeing in primary schools. She has collaborated with assessment expert Shirley Clarke on classroom approaches that make thinking visible and build learners’ confidence and independence.
Muncaster co-authored Growth Mindset Lessons: Every Child a Learner (Hodder/Hachette, 2017) and Thinking Classrooms: Metacognition Lessons for Primary Schools (Hodder/Hachette, 2018), providing practical sequences and exemplars for whole-school use. She later wrote Growth Mindset for the IB PYP: Every child a learner with Shirley Clarke (Hodder Education, 2020), aligning mindset teaching with the Primary Years Programme framework.
Expanding into resilience education, she co-authored Mental Toughness: Practical classroom activities to help young people cope with stress, challenge and change with Steve Oakes (Hachette Learning, 2023). Mental Toughness was published on 27 January 2023.
