Justin Reynolds writes as justin a. reynolds and is an author of young adult fiction, middle-grade fiction and graphic novels. His debut YA novel, Opposite of Always, was published on 5 March 2019 and follows Jack King, whose relationship with Kate is shaped by repeated time loops after her death.
Early Departures was published on 22 September 2020 by Katherine Tegen Books. The novel is a YA contemporary story with a speculative element: Jamal’s best friend, Q, is reanimated after a fatal accident, giving Jamal a limited chance to repair their friendship and say goodbye.
Reynolds has written for younger readers as well as teenagers. It’s The End of the World and I’m in My Bathing Suit is a middle-grade adventure-comedy for ages 8 to 12 about twelve-year-old Eddie Gordon Holloway, who is left at home doing laundry when the power goes out and people in his neighbourhood disappear.
His graphic-novel work includes Miles Morales: Shock Waves, featuring Brooklyn’s Spider-Man. He is also the co-founder of the CLE Reads Book Festival, a Cleveland book festival for middle-grade and young adult writers. In 2023, he edited House Party, a collection centred on stories taking place during a single house party.
