Joy Hinson biography

Joy Hinson is a British academic and non-fiction author specialising in endocrinology and reproductive biology. She is an emeritus professor at Queen Mary University of London. After studying comparative physiology at the University of London, she completed a PhD researching adrenal endocrinology. In 2006, she received a Doctor of Science degree from the University of London in recognition of her research into the adrenal cortex. She was awarded the Drapers’ Prize for outstanding teaching in 2009.

Hinson is the author of Goat, published by Reaktion Books in November 2014 as part of its Animal series. The illustrated book examines the evolution, domestication and natural history of goats, alongside their significance in agriculture, medicine, mythology and cultural traditions.

Her academic publications include The Endocrine System, co-authored with Peter Raven, and Hormones, also written with Raven and published by Oxford University Press in 2019 as part of the Oxford Biology Primers series.
