John Marsden biography

John Marsden is an Australian author known for his work in children’s and young adult fiction. He began his writing career in the late 1980s, publishing his first novel, So Much to Tell You, in 1987. The book received critical recognition and established Marsden as a significant voice in young people’s literature.

Marsden is widely recognised for the Tomorrow series, which starts with Tomorrow, When the War Began, published in 1993. The series follows a group of teenagers as they navigate the challenges of survival and resistance after their country is invaded. The books have been noted for their exploration of themes such as resilience, friendship, and the impact of conflict on young people.

In addition to the Tomorrow series, Marsden has written other novels including Letters from the Inside and Checkers. His works often address complex issues relevant to adolescents, such as identity, trauma, and personal growth.

Marsden has also contributed to education, founding a school and engaging in teaching and mentoring young writers. His influence extends beyond literature into educational practice and youth development.

In 1996, Tomorrow, When the War Began was awarded the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year for Older Readers.
