Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Jenny McLachlan is a British author known for her children’s and young adult fiction. She taught English for several years before becoming a full-time writer. McLachlan’s debut novel, Flirty Dancing, was published by Bloomsbury in 2014 and is the first in the Ladybirds series, which also includes Love Bomb (2015), Sunkissed (2015), and Star Struck (2016).
Her standalone young adult novel, Stargazing for Beginners, was published by Bloomsbury in 2017. McLachlan has also written for younger readers, including the Land of Roar trilogy, published by Egmont: The Land of Roar (2019), Return to Roar (2020), and The Battle for Roar (2021). The series features fantasy adventure themes and has been translated into multiple languages.
The Land of Roar was selected for the 2020 Summer Reading Challenge by The Reading Agency. Her work is published in the UK by Bloomsbury and Egmont.
In 2023, McLachlan published Dead Good Detectives with Farshore, the first in a new series for middle-grade readers. The sequel, Dead Good Detectives: The Ghostly Thief, followed in 2024.
