Jean Reidy biography

Jean Reidy writes children’s picture books. Her books include All Through My Town, Too Purpley!, Too Pickley! and Too Princessy!. All Through My Town was published by Bloomsbury Children’s Books on 5 March 2013, with illustrations by Leo Timmers.

Too Purpley! is a rhyming board-book text about a toddler choosing clothes, illustrated by Geneviève Leloup. The Bloomsbury USA Children’s ebook edition was published on 27 June 2013 and has 32 pages.

Reidy wrote Truman, a picture book illustrated by Lucy Ruth Cummins and published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers on 9 July 2019. The book is for ages 4 to 8, has 48 pages, and centres on a tortoise who sets out across a living room after his friend Sarah leaves for her first day of school.

Truman was a Charlotte Zolotow Award Honor Book and a Colorado Book Awards finalist. Reidy is a three-time winner of the Colorado Book Award and a Parents’ Choice Gold Award winner.

Reidy and Lucy Ruth Cummins also collaborated on Sylvie, a 40-page picture book published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers on 10 May 2022. Sylvie follows a small spider who watches over people in an apartment building and takes a risk to bring them together; it was a Colorado Book Awards finalist.
