J.C. Cervantes biography

J.C. Cervantes (also published as Jennifer Cervantes) is an American author of children’s, young adult and adult fiction. She is best known in children’s publishing for fast-paced contemporary fantasies drawing on Mesoamerican myth, and in adult fiction for romantic, magic-tinged stories.

Her middle-grade work with the Rick Riordan Presents imprint began with The Storm Runner (2018) and continued with The Fire Keeper (2019) and The Shadow Crosser (2020). She later returned to the same world with The Lords of Night (2021), the first “Shadow Bruja” novel set in the Storm Runner universe. Earlier in her career she published the middle-grade novel Tortilla Sun (2010).

For teen readers Cervantes has written contemporary romances including Flirting with Fate (2022) and Always Isn’t Forever (2023), both published for the YA market. These titles broadened her list beyond fantasy into character-driven stories of love, loss and second chances.

Writing as J.C. Cervantes for adults, she made her mainstream debut with The Enchanted Hacienda (2023), a romantic novel with elements of magical realism. The book introduced her to a new readership while maintaining the family, identity and destiny themes that run through her children’s and YA work.

Cervantes speaks at schools and festivals about reading, writing and cultural heritage, and her books are used in classrooms for discussions of voice, myth and modern retellings.
