Jane Wilsher is a British author and editor known for her work in children’s non-fiction. She has written and developed numerous books for young readers, focusing on science, history, and general knowledge. Wilsher is the author of Britannica’s 150 First Words and Britannica’s Word of the Day, both published by What on Earth Books in partnership with Encyclopaedia Britannica. She also wrote Marvellous Machines: A Magic Lens Book and The Human Body: A Shine-a-Light Book.
Wilsher has worked as an editor and publisher for over 20 years, including roles at Dorling Kindersley and Carlton Books. She co-founded b small publishing, specialising in children’s activity and educational books. Her book Britannica’s Word of the Day was shortlisted for the 2023 ALCS Educational Writers’ Award.
Her titles have been translated into multiple languages and are distributed internationally. In 2021, Marvellous Machines was shortlisted for the Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize.
