Jane Still is a British biology writer, science teacher and educational consultant. She holds a degree in biological science from the University of Exeter and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Cambridge. Her professional work includes writing, examining and reviewing biology publications, often in collaboration with fellow science educator Dr Neil Ingram.
Still is a co-author of Evolution, written with Neil Ingram and Sylvia Hixson Andrews and published by Oxford University Press in November 2021. Part of the Oxford Biology Primers series, the book introduces students aged 16-19 to evolutionary theory, the history of life on Earth, the evidence for evolution and developments in genetics and genomics. The six chapters cover topics including the emergence and extinction of species, changing scientific explanations of evolution, human origins and fossil evidence.
Still has also contributed to science education through conferences, lectures and workshops. She and Ingram presented a session entitled Evolution: A 360 Degree Perspective at the Association for Science Education’s annual conference in January 2022. In February 2023, they participated in Shrewsbury’s DarwIN Festival, delivering a masterclass for A-level biology students and a public lecture entitled Darwin for 21st Century Thinking.
