Jane Porter biography

Jane Porter is a London-based author and illustrator of children’s and picture books.

Before focussing on books, she worked as a geography editor for a magazine, then studied illustration. She now works full time as an illustrator, writer and teacher.

Porter’s published books span picture and novelty formats, children’s maps, murals and handmade books used in outreach work. She has collaborated with institutions such as the National Trust, English Heritage, the Corporation of London, Historic Royal Palaces and the National Health Service on projects that combine visual storytelling with public engagement.

The Boy Who Loved Everyone (Walker Books UK, 2020) is one of her best-known titles. The book was also published in the US by Candlewick and in Italy under the title Io Ti Voglio Tanto Bene. The story was inspired by a child in her under-5s art class who habitually told everyone “I love you,” and reflects themes of expressing emotion in different ways.

Her work has been recognised: The Boy Who Loved Everyone won the Little Rebels Award and earned The Christopher Award (Books for Young People).
