Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Jane Bingham is a British author of children’s and young adult nonfiction and narrative works. She has written over sixty books for publishers including Usborne, Bloomsbury, Heinemann and Penguin.
She studied English at the University of Exeter and Art History at the University of York. Bingham worked for Usborne Publishing, contributing to and editing dictionaries, encyclopaedias and learning resources.
Bingham specialises in books on history and art for younger readers. Her titles include Welcome to the Ancient Olympics! and A Time Travel Guide to the Aztec Empire for historical learning, and several works introducing Impressionism, graffiti and Aboriginal art. She has also produced versions of classic stories, collections of myths, and guides to design and visual culture.
Earlier in her career, she created the Usborne Illustrated Dictionary, which received a UK Reading Association award for its contribution to children’s literacy. She also worked on a children’s thesaurus project and a bilingual dictionary commissioned by Oxford University Press.
Beyond publishing, Bingham contributes to literacy initiatives and has supported the charity ARCh, which works to improve reading and writing in Oxfordshire schools.
