Jackie Azúa Kramer biography

Jackie Azúa Kramer is an author of children’s books whose work explores themes of family, friendship, and imagination. She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling in Education and has worked in theatre as well as in education. Her background informs her writing, which often centres on emotional intelligence and creative storytelling.

Azúa Kramer’s debut picture book, The Green Umbrella, was published by NorthSouth Books in 2017. The story follows an imaginative adventure sparked by a simple object, highlighting the power of sharing and kindness. She has since written several other picture books, including If You Want to Fall Asleep (NorthSouth Books, 2018), The Boy and the Gorilla (Candlewick Press, 2020), and La Noche Before Three Kings Day (HarperCollins, 2022). Her books are illustrated by a range of artists and are published by established children’s imprints.

Azúa Kramer’s work has been recognised by various organisations. The Boy and the Gorilla was named a 2021 Charlotte Huck Award Honor Book by the National Council of Teachers of English. Her stories are noted for their gentle approach to complex emotions and their appeal to young readers and families.
