Izzy Burton biography

Izzy Burton is a British illustrator, animation director and visual development artist whose work includes children’s publishing, film and television. She studied Computer Visualisation and Animation at Bournemouth University, graduating in 2015 with a first-class degree. After university she joined Blue Zoo Animation Studio as a concept artist and subsequently worked there as an art director and director.

At Blue Zoo, Burton directed the animated short film Via, which follows one man through significant moments in his life. She was named one of Animation Magazine’s Rising Stars of Animation in 2018, and Via was longlisted for the BAFTA for British Short Animation. Her animation work has also included projects for Cartoon Network, Netflix Animation and Passion Pictures. She later worked in visual development and background art and is now a production designer at Aardman.

Burton made her picture-book debut as the illustrator of The Wonder Tree, written by Teresa Heapy and published in the UK in 2020. The story follows a young owl asking questions about the tree in which he lives and introduces ideas about trees, wildlife and the changing seasons. She also illustrated Ariel Horn’s Do Not Go in There!, published by Imprint in 2020, and Stella and the Seagull by Georgina Stevens, published by Oxford University Press in 2021.

Her other children’s illustration work includes Goodnight, Astronaut by NASA astronaut Scott Kelly and Tate’s Wild Rescue by Jenny Turnbull, both published by Penguin Random House imprints.
