Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Hollie Hughes is a British children’s author known for her picture books. She studied English Literature at university and later completed an MA in Writing for Children at the University of Winchester. Hughes has worked in various roles related to children’s literature, including as a creative writing tutor and in library services.
Her debut picture book, The Famishing Vanishing Mahoosive Mammoth, illustrated by Leigh Hodgkinson, was published by Bloomsbury in 2016. Hughes has since written several other picture books, collaborating with illustrators such as Anna Wilson, Sarah Massini, and Deborah Allwright. Her titles include Princess Swashbuckle, Colin the Cart Horse, and Thank You, Teacher!.
Hughes’s book Under the Same Sky, illustrated by Anna Wilson, was published by Bloomsbury in 2017. This title was shortlisted for the 2018 Kate Greenaway Medal.
