Hazel Maskell biography

Hazel Maskell is a children’s author whose books span non-fiction, activity and picture formats. Her work includes titles for Usborne and Laurence King Publishing, with subjects ranging from science and nature to history, art and early puzzles.

Selected publications include What’s Biology All About? (Usborne, 2009) and the co-authored What’s Science All About? with Lisa Jane Gillespie, Kate Davies and Alex Frith (Usborne, 2010). She has written the large-format The Usborne Big Book of Big Animals, illustrated by Fabiano Fiorin (2011), and activity and spotting books such as 1001 Things to Spot on Vacation (2011) and Lots of Things to Spot in the Town (2013).

Her topic guides include Cycling (Usborne, 2015), and she has written themed history and culture titles including Hollywood and the Golden Age of Glamour (2015). Picture-led atlases and activity books also feature in her bibliography, alongside collaborations with illustrators including Adam Larkum and Eleanor Taylor.

A recent milestone is A Year in Nature: A Carousel Book of the Seasons, illustrated by Eleanor Taylor and published by Laurence King Publishing in 2018.
